Yeesh.... I hope the come out with a PLAIN 1095 version, and charge a decent price for it.

I have a Becker Necker. I really like it. I think it was $29. $85 now?! I don't care what kind of fancy San Mai blade it has, this is a utility knife and not a showpiece IMHO. It's great for a small lightweight sheath knife to take hiking. The Necker's handle is small and not ergonomic. Functional for a skeleton utility knife, but not comfortable by any means. I agree with Ironraven. This knife should be in 1095 steel, like the original.

The knife is on Ka-bar's website. The msrp is $125.68

Ka-Bar Becker Necker

I shot them an e-mail asking if they are going to do a less expensive simple version. I'll let you guys know if I get a response.

I actually like the idea of the San Mai blade; it can make for a very strong, easy to sharpen, and rust resistant blade. However, I do agree the $125 price tag is a bit much, especially for a knife that originally stickered for less than $50.

Ka bar says look for more becker knives to be released in mid-November.

And the ebay advert says only 1900 of the san mai blades were produced.

Maybe just a special initial run?

I'm waiting for the BK-7 that is supposed to be out by the end of November. That will probably be more expensive though....

If that's a high end product then $85 is not an excessive price. You always, always, always get what you pay for. Against, say, the cost of a Buss. Which that appears to be clone of.

My prefered choice is the Fallkniven WM1 with a kyndex sheath. It is the benchmark standard against which I judge other neck knives.

Interestingly, it is about the same price.

IF I remember right from the video at the shot show that these are a special one off type thing and we'll have the real thing pretty soon.

The BK-11CSM is starting to ship. It has a laminated high carbon/ stainless blade similar to Fallknivens and some of the Moras.

The BK-11 should ship next month and has a 1095 Cro Van high carbon blade, the same steel used in traditional Ka-Bars. Street price is around 45.00. There have been some improvements but it's much the same as the Becker Necker of old.

From that BK-11 product page link that lifeview posted:

Quote:
Ka-Bar has taken a good knife and made it better. The thickness was increased from .150” to 1.65” for increased strength while the grind was raised to accommodate the new thickness and preserve cutting efficiency.

A blade thickness increase from .150" to 1.65"? Well, that CERTAINLY will increase blade strength! I doubt you'll be thin-slicing tomatoes with that blade though.

Thanks for pointing out the typo. A 1.65" thickness would require a very severe grind indeed.
