Hey all, I am working on a first aid kit for my troop and was wondering were is teh best place to get medical supplies. I need about a 20 person kit for 3 days (basecamp setup). Just a supplier that would have the stuff for cheep. I have about a 120-170 dollar budget. Thanks all.

ps the budget is pretty flexible.

pps Also if you have any ideas for stuff that I may forget to add please feel free to share.

I didn't really do this as a Boy Scout, but going to your local fire station and talking to them might help. Their medics can help you make a kit, and would probably know of any cheap local distributers.

Alternatley, Google like crazy. I know Galls sells supplies in bulk, but usually not the cheapest place online.

I would check out our very own Red Flare Red Flare and LifeView LifeView vendors. I for one have ordered from Red Flare a number of times and have been very happy with the prices, quality and customer services. The ability to buy 1 or 100 gives you great flexibility when putting together or restocking your supplies.

Check with your local hospitals and the like fist. Everyone likes to donate to the Boy Scouts. If you hit the right contact they may even help you decide what you need.

Check with your local American Red Cross chapter. They sell a variety of kits, including larger office/industrial/outdoors kits. And as a fellow non-profit they might give you a discount or throw in reduced cost/free training.

Irrigating is OK in some circumstances. Usually you can use a 10cc or 20cc syringe, usually with normal saline, or occasionally water. In the field, you can fake it with a ziplock bag with a pinhole in one corner.

Beware, though, that irrigation tends to splash. How much of someone's blood do you want on you?

You'll probably be fine just "rinsing" a wound with clean water (either boiled, filtered, etc). Do it enough to get out the obvious dirt and stuff. It's not as high pressure as a syringe, so you'll probably need more fluid. I'd suggest cold water (easy or hard, depending on your campsite!) if possible, cuz it may hurt, and the cold will help dull the pain eventually.....
