Some days (was it weeks?) ago, I posted here about the need for a "dad survival kit" and that led to some requests for pictures and all that....so it's been busy since then, but I managed to carve out some quality time with a digital camera and a copy of Dreamweaver to make a primative web site with some pictures and such of the various gear I drag around. The address is
http://www.focazio.com/equipped

the site is not going to win any prizes, but I hope that some folks gain some benefit from it.
I'm very open to comments, suggestions and so on. Please read the "Kit Purposes" headings because that gives you a sense of what I think each kit is for and how it is used.

Regards,

Marty

Hi Martyf,

Very nice. You've obviously put in some serious time thinking through this.

Well done site! I couldn't bring up the "house" link, but everything else worked like a champ. One day I will be this organized about my camping/survial gear kits.

Well done, good site. I particularly liked the Excel spreadsheet (which I've robbed). I couldn't get the house link either. Big up for all the work you've put in

martyf,

I also stole the excel list. I keep my lists this way also but have not done the update tricks for expired items....nice.

After a very quick survey of your site I would suggest a couple of minimal additions. I normally carry both latex gloves and leather gloves in EDC kit. I may suggest additon of a couple pairs of latex to your first aid kit and the leather to your PSK kit. Dealing with any body fluids, particularily outside the family, should be done with a latex or other type of plastic glove barrier. Leather are nice for digging through rubble or even helping friends move.

Loads of material to look at here, very nicely done. I particularily like the PSK being a small stocked pouch rather than an Altoids tin!

I agree on the latex surgical gloves for first aid (as long as you or first aid recipient are not allergic to latex) but leather gloves would defeat the purpose of the kit and make it too bulky to want to carry it all the time.

Instead of latex you might want to carry nitrile gloves instead. Same fit and feel as latex, you don't have to worry about allergic reactions, and nitrile is much more durable. The down side is nitrile costs more than latex. Nitrile gloves are also good for other than first aid. They do not break down under contact with oil and grease, and are resistant to most solvents. You can use nitrile for first aid and keeping your hands clean under the hood.

Congratulations on your orgaization.

I use the plain rubbermaid tubs for my Bug-In Kits. They are not nearly as sturdy as the Action Packers nor do the lids stay on as well.

I look forward to see the home kit when you get the page repaired.

Very nicely done & I agree with liking the kit in a pouch.

I have had great luck with two that I have been using for my cell phone and pager, made by "Ripoffs". They have held up for day to day wear, on & off the job, (even while tree-topping). They have a nicely designed metal clip that both holds securely and releases quickly. & Yes, try the nitrile gloves-- you may be able to talk a few sets away from a firefighter, medic or ambulance worker/EMT. Our mechanics use them at work- I believe they are oil resistant.

If you can't get a few, e-mail me off-forum and I'll see if I can mail you some-- (a donation from work when they aren't looking)
