I recently got a pair of these, and I like them: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=288843

I went skeet shooting a couple weeks ago, and got complimented by the operator at the range.

Izzy,

Thanks for the input, good info. However, I have a shovel (or other tools) for that. The main thing is to keep my hands dry and warm while I make snowballs to throw at the kids. grin

Hardware stores often have them, even here in my little town.

And where is that little town? State or Country is fine. Actually you would think I already know according to the old posts but I'm not that bright.

I never tried them but my guess is that they are too specialized for applications where you have to work with liquids and chemicals for a long time. And I don't think they breathe.

For general purspose the best is wool liners with leahter mitts treated with water repellent. The cheapest mitts are warmer then the most expensive gloves. If you're going to play with snow, the best is to have gauntlets (long cuffs). And there are trigger finger mittens availaible, which is convenient when you want to tie knots in the cold without removing your mitts and if it's cold you just put your finger with the others.

I layer my gloves just like I layer my clothing.
  • Helly Hansen liners
  • 2 finger cycling Mitts from the MEC for winter which will go over the liners
  • Leather palm work gloves which are stretchy on the back so they'll go over the liners if I need them to
  • In summer I'll swap the mitts for a lightweight, waterproof gloves (also from the MEC) one size too big. Can be worn over the liners or over the leather gloves to keep the wet out.

Lots of combinations to cover any situation.

I also have the Helly Hansen liners. I do the trick from Kochanski: the index finger and thumb are circumcised for delicate manipulating. He uses dollar type magic gloves with spandex but my hands are too large and the dollar gloves feel too constrictive.

I tried neoprene gloves for camping while Colorado 4 wheeling.

Found that they swelled up at altitude due to the closed-cell nature of the foam. The resulting compression on my hands reduced circulation and made my hands cold.

And the cold rubber conducts heat more than more "normal" insulation.

Might be the best solution for fishing when hands might be staying wet but otherwise - not a success for me.

I tried to find my pair the other day and couldn't. No real loss.
