I forget where I first found this, but the following are real patents that have been issued by the US Patent and Trademark Office for some pretty dubious inventions.

Patently Silly

My favorite is the collar you'd put on before boarding a plane that would release a tranquilizer into your neck if you misbehave.

Oh sorry, I posted this in the wrong forum! Should've gone to the Campfire.

You know, I was contemplating a career change. Perhaps the USPO is a good place to go. Patents only get awarded if I say "Cool" to myself. Everything else gets rejected.

I have a better idea. It costs a lot of money to get a patent registered. You can be the person handling the incoming requests.

If it makes sense, send it upstairs.

If it's pure idiocy, tell them to send the $45,000 to you, and you will check around and find someone who wants it. Then put it on your "Interested in This Patent?" website, and see if there are enough OTHER fools that like one (or more) of them, then introduce them to each other.
