From a strictly military viewpoint, I've gotta wonder. I can smell a smoker from at least 10ft away in a no-wind condition, and can see big dark spit blobs wherever a "dipper" has offloaded. I will admit that I am from the "fight in the jungle" generation, not the desert, but it still seems to me that one could compromise his/her location simply by being a tobacco user...

Along with the Rule of Three's, there exists the Three Basic Food Groups: Nicotine, Caffeine, and Alcohol.

And I've never had much use for quitters....

I can't possibly imagine any good that could come from the use of nicotine. Yes, I am an ex-smoker. While I've never been addicted to heroin, I will say that the many times I've quit smoking (most recently 20 years ago) were the hardest things I've ever done.

The reason people in the military dip is because they can't smoke in many situations. It's not that dipping is good for you or is a performance enhancer. I can't think of too many athletes that dip anymore. I think that went out with horsehide baseballs. Smokeless tobacco just moves where you get cancer.

You'd be better off keeping a couple of toots of cocaine in your BOB. It's more effective, healthier and less addictive.

P.S. No, I really don't advocate illegal activity.
