I still can't find any in the local stores, thanks for the link Katie, I'll check them out. Have you tried any, if so how are they?

I haven't tried any yet, but I'm planning on ordering an assortment of food from Minimus.biz soon for backpacking. I'll report back on how the PB tastes. It sounds good! But, what isn't tasty after a long day on the trail?

Shadow: If you happen to live near Jeannette or Charleroi, you're in luck: Delallo's Fine Foods or Yarecks's Natural Foods.

Sorry XBanker I live in NW Pennsylvania, we don't have much to chose from in the way of grocery stores...lol. I don't get down that way that often, I'm still looking though, Katie suggested a site I'm going to try, but I'll still keep looking locally though.

Thanks
Shadow out !!!

Unless it says very specifically that it doesn't contain transfats, it does contain transfats

What is wrong with just storing peanuts? Whole seeds store longer don't they? Just grind them as you go.

New England Journal of Medicine just put out a big review of trans fat I believe in 2006. Even when it says on the label 0g trans fat it can still contain some due to legislation in the USA. Look for no "partially hydrogenated oils" in the ingredient list.

Hydrogenating oils not only gives them a different texture (as in PB) it also extends the shelf life of the product. So just storing peanuts will over time cause the fat/oil to oxidize and go rancid. If you do store peanuts you will have to rotate them relatively frequently.

I agree with your sentiment though...with a history of heart disease in my family the last thing I need is some dietary trans fat to exacerbate my genetic potential for a heart attack. No more skippy for me. frown

Cheers,
Nemo
