I have relatives with Nukalert(s) in the Far North and Southernmost portions of Ontario, Canada (3 in total).

All the Nukalerts are currently silent (which is a very good thing as they start to alarm at 100mR/hr).

I should soon have access to a Geiger counter with a more appropriate range (Thursday). I'll report on Thursday if I'm picking up anything. I doubt there is anything yet.

^ This site has a radiation network but I'm not going to trust anyone other than friends or old ETS members. The lack of trustworthy and consistent information is shocking.

Does anyone else have radiation detection equipment that they can report with?

Yes.
My wife's Nukalert is also silent.

North America is SO FAR AWAY and the Nukalert is so insensitive that I think it's silly to even check.

BTW- We've had fallout before. (not that power plant contamination is quite "fallout")
The class ahead of me in nuclear power training learned to take surface contamination swipes on the hoods of cars in the parking lot. (training was for how to get the right swiped area to read)

The Chinese had done an above-ground nuclear weapons test a week or two earlier and the atmospheric fallout in New York was measurable. Consider the difference in dispersion between a bomb blowing junk into the atmosphere and ordinary surface level winds scattering radioactive particles.

The Press is way overboard on this because they can't do math and get paid for hype.

The press certainly is way overboard on this issue. I do agree.

I priced geiger counters for home use today - primarily out of curiosity. I am not planning on buying one at the current time, and definitely not during the current "crisis". But I may consider it at some time in the future - just because I've come to the conclusion that governments won't ever tell their people what is going on during nuclear accidents. These units cost in the range $300-$500, which is quite steep! Right now i am using any spare cash to stock up my meds, water and food supplies at home ... a more practical solution to the whole thing.

How about dosimeter cards? (Google it). Many people who work with X-ray or does work in any way related to nuclear radiation will carry one of these.

All the dosimeters I have are for war levels of radiation. The civilian ones (lower range) usually have to be sent away to be read (at least all the ones I've seen).

Here is another online radiation detection network showing CPMs so the measurements will quite sensitive to any increase in background radiation.

Their Geiger counters and computer based software (Rad) looks to be quite interesting as well.
