Earthquake swarms: I received an email about earthquake swarms along the West Coast (Aleutian Islands to Mexico) and them being a precursor to a large Cascadia Subduction Zone "event". Info in the email came across as a teaser and I couldn't open the link so that's about all I know. Anybody else heard/read anything significant?

You can check out recent earthquake activity at the USGS website.

http://quake.usgs.gov/recenteqs/latest.htm

This link shows the current California activity. There is also a link to recent news, but there was no information on that page currently. You can also look at US and world activity.

I hope this helps.

Earthquake swarms are common, and the Southern California Seismic Networks keeps track of them, mostly in Baja California:
http://www.scsn.org/

The long link above that I've tinyurled has links to every reference on SCSN to swarms, and you'll see that they have not led to major earthquakes. The article you link to as "precursor" was written in 2005. As you know from the lack of news, no one has predicted an earthquake from any evidence - swarms, cows, or aliens. :->

Thanks, what was written seemed to be a teaser. Looks like my suspicions were justified.

Understanding earthquakes is about as predictable as understanding women. Just stay prepared.

At least there's hope that someday in the future we'll figure 'em out. Earthquakes I mean.

Some have claimed that Lunar cycles have an effect on the predictability of both earthquakes and women. Mad crazy scientists!! grin
