bacpacboy and I had a mom and son day today, and it was a gorgeous one, so we decided to go explore our favourite creek. We hiked for about 5 hours total, bushwhacking around fallen trees, climbing over bolders, and following raccoon tracks to see if they led to the illusive crayfish we have yet to find in there.

Lunch was Mr. Noodles and tuna, made on my Coleman hexi stove, with a little fire started with my Mora LMF Fireknife. We boiled the water in a simple coffee can and huge tin cup (or a lid).

After lunch, with a little coaching, he made his first solo twig fire. It took a while but he was thrilled. I'll never forget the look on his face when he finally got it. We only planned to have a small brief fire but he was so happy that we let grow a little and last a bit. I thought he was going to cry when we let it die down and finally put it out.
