Flesh Eating Robots
http://scienceblogs.com/oscillator/2010/03/flesh_eating_robots.php

http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn6366-selfsustaining-killer-robot-creates-a-stink.html

A fly catching robot that sits statically on a wall , or the mouse eating table, don't bother me. They are a good excuse to be a slob. I'm not piggish ... I'm keeping the wall clock and table alive. Yea ... that's the ticket.

A robot that goes out to get fed worries me a little more. The one that powers itself on sewage could become a disturbing trend. Image a cluster of small robots that beg and pressure you to defecate on them. Beggars asking for money is bad enough.

But more worrying is what happens if they become independent and aggressive. Would they start sabotaging pubic toilets? What happens if they figure out that if you trip someone up so they fall on the road in front of a bus they get a puddle of high protein goodness?

And if they can run on sewage how hard would it be for them to use blood. Florida is full of blood suckers. Mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas. I don't see vampire robots as an improvement.

Then again I'm not sure which is more disturbing. Begging for sewage or predation for blood. Any luck at all; we get both. I get the feeling that we haven't seen anything yet. It is going to get weird.

The ones that might scavenge from battlefield corpses are the ones that make me uneasy.

I can see some poor guy trying to explain why Johnny's body is missing pieces from its nose and ears.
