Santa brought me the first folding knife I have owned other than SAK models. I like most things about the knife but feel it should securely lock closed. The blade is loose and can be swung partially open so the point is exposed when it is "closed." This is not safe.

I think there is something wrong with the lock mechanism when the knife is "closed" though it seems fine when opened.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

None of my Grips do that. If I pull the tip of the blade on my BM550HG Grip about 1/4" out from the handle and release it, the springs pull it back into the handle very firmly. If your blade isn't staying securely in the handle, send it back to Benchmade. The same springs that lock it open lock provide the tension to keep it in place when closed. Something might not be right.

IzzyJG99 is right on. Try tightening the pivot screw using a size T10 Torx driver first. Don't over-tighten though.

Also Dweste, look at the Benchmade website. They offer a yearly "tune up" service for $5 (for return postage). Costs about $3.20 in the US to mail it out in a padded envelope. No RMA is required.
You can also toss in a note mentioning what specifically us bugging you, your concerns, and ask for the appropriate torx screwdrivers too.

But I'd first adjust that torsion screw - it's the pivot screw at the front of the handle. Mine once came back real tight, and I loosened it back a bit (driver was included).

If you do decide to send it back, turn around is a touch over a week. I would also ask that you consider sending a note about the looseness out of the box. Perhaps there's some QC issue at play that they should be made aware of.

I think you should open up threads complaining about this issue on multiple forums demanding personal satisfaction from the guy who designed this knife.
