Solar Gizmo Charger -19.99

Worth it just for all the connectors.

Comes in white or black. no choice. I got two of them, they work good if you have full sun for a few hours.

I am not connected with buy.com, this not an endorsement by Equipped To survive Foundations.

Just a cool gizmo I'm picking up, maybe you want one too.

Good catch, thanx 4 the link I picked one up. It'll be the first solar charger that I own...

I wonder, would it be possible to rig something up at home so that instead of charging a product directly it charges 2x or 4x AA/AAA batteries?

Since it's got some form of a usb connection, you could get one of the Energizer chargers for 2 AA/AAA batteries and one of the multiple end cables. I don't recall who makes it but there is one that you can change both ends to match the combination you need.

For example Motorola, Nokia and Sony Ericsson no longer use the attachments that come with it. More importantly if you read the output on this it's damaging to most electronics. It puts out 6.5 volts, but only at 350milliamps, which is about 20% shy of the four cell phones I've tried requiring. Maybe I'm misreading how milliamps work and so forth.

Make no mistake it does work and brilliantly. Within 5 seconds of exposing it to direct Sunlight it began to charge my iPod Video. I'm going to in the next couple of days order a USB based charger for my Sony Ericsson K550i and see if by plugging that into the USB adapter meant for the iPod Shuffle if that will work. If not I think one of us who bought this kit will be able to come up with some homebrew remedies.

It's a lot smaller than it looks, also. But sturdy. I'd say it's a little bit larger than a small moleskine notebook. A little more than 1/4" thick, too.

Did they say it was used/refurb on the site? I forget as I was holding off until someone reviewed one smile

They don't and that's what made me quite annoyed. The product is great considering the price. The problem just is the adapters are for Pre 2004 phones generally speaking. I say get one while you can. There honestly is no reason that I can think of that other adapters cannot be used with this platform. It's almost PSK portable in it's size.

Awesome! Thank you.

Mine doesn't say anything about refurb on the unit or packaging and looks perfect.
What location was the refurb sticker on?

Mine was not refurb'd at all, and was shiny new and clean. Worked fine - in direct sun - on a cell phone and a blackberry.
