I've read about the jumping vipers that inhabit the jungles of the Yucatan in eastern Mexico. It sounds like it would be a real adventure to head out that way, so let's talk about it.

Don't know anything about the Yucatan, or jumpin' snakes, used to know a bit about the fer de lance in Panama. Almost stepped on one once, scared the hair outta my head...
It would be wise to head off to the Yucatan in the event that the economy collapses and they implement martial law, so now's a good time to talk about it.
I've got a book about deadly snakes. I can't say that I know very much about the subject of snakes aside for what it says in the book, but it does provide some information about the fer de lance and the jumping pit viper. It says that snakes are probably not going to bother you unless you stumble onto them by accident.
Humans represent a much greater threat than snakes.

Actually, that would be pretty dumb. If our economy tanks then so will that of the rest of the world, especially Mexico. They are almost completely dependent on us (legally or illegally) for money. The crime rate in Mexico is already through the roof. Put them in dire straits and it'll get even more blood thirsty.

I forgot about the bushmaster, if you should go a tad farther south, say Costa Rica, Nicaragua, or beyond. This big guy reachs lenghts of up to 14 feet, with fangs in the two inch range. He also has the reputation of being very very aggressive, make him mad and he will chase you...

I am glad that my personal experience was limited to the fer de lance. The bushmaster really scares me. And for some unknown reason, my wife is thinking of a trip to Panama...
