I just thought that I would ask here and see if anybody knew anything...

There are a couple of web sites that I hit every now and then looking for bargains, but they are mostly tech-related -- places like www.dealnews.com and www.spoofee.com. They have links to on-line retailers who are having great sales. This is fine if I want a camcorder or computer, or even housewares. But on these sites, you NEVER see sales on water filtration kits, high-quality knives, signal mirrors, etc.

I would like to find a deal site that specializes in outdoor gear -- camping, hunting, fishing, hiking. Does anybody know of such a site? Or do outdoor stores not really have great sales?

Most companies with a web presence have a place where you can sign up for weekly web deals sent out via e-mail. I like:
Sportsman's Guide
Sierra Trading Post
Campmor

Check your favorite stores, they all probably have similar set-ups.

Yeah. I am aware of those. But they are usually just trying to sell their stuff. "Good deal" is in the eye of the beholder. 10% off is no big deal (most common type of "sale"). 50% off is.

I wish somebody made one site that pointed out "Yes, this is a great deal."

You might check out the online catalog for "Cheaper Than Dirt". They have some good sales on some things

Candlepowerforums.com has a thread somewhere with a list of online merchants offering discounts to members. I don't have the link handy but maybe someone else can post it.

Some of the discounts are worth it (10+% off) and some are not. But I've definitely gotten some excellent deals, and it has the link to the secret discount page at countycomm.com, which sometimes has real bargains.

Only thing that comes to mind is ebay. Even then it's a crap shoot.

I've always had good luck at local thrift stores. I believe that some companies around here donate old stock to them for a tax write-off instead of taking a big loss on a 50% sale. I got a few pairs of 5.11 uniform pants w tags for $5 each the last time I went deal hunting.

I think he is looking for sites that list other companies deals.

I have been using Deal Catcher and Fat Wallet . Check out Fat Wallets Hot Deals Forums. Lots of great stuff and not just tech stuff. Tech Bargains has good deals on the tech stuff.

steepandcheap.com

most of the stuff is at least 50% off retai. They post new items around 11pm, and if it's a good deal it tends to go quick.
