If that happened and we retaliated, we would still be reduced to a shadow of what we used to be. Our economy would be in shambles along with much of our infrastructure. We are in very great danger and the politicians look the other way and pretend we are fine. In the event of one or several nukes, our survival preparations may not be near enough.

Cedfire, We might survive, but at what cost??? Several millions dead, our economy in total shambles, our allies coming to our aid (dont always count on that!), our infrastructure taxed way beyond limits, irresponsible and unprepared citizens rioting in the streets (do count on that!), etc. I firmly believe one statement in the article referenced. I dont think it is "if", I think it is "when". I live in Arizona and have for amost 40 years so I KNOW how porous our border is here--and the liberals here would make it even more so!!! In the Sunday AZ Republic newspaper was an article about the big debate going on by those who want the borders closed tighter and those who dont. The liberals want even more illegal immigrants to enter. The average "illegal" is just a poor soul who wants a better life-and I dont begrudge anyone that desire, but if the numbers are even close--that 6 million a year cross the Mexican border, wow--think how easy a few terrorists can slip across with/without nuclear devices. Heck, the pot and cocaine shipments are in the MANY TONS here all the time. And dont think the terrorists dont have nukes--they have the money, the connections and lots of places to buy them (former Soviet bloc nations, many of whom are hugely sympathetic muslim populations). You better have more than a 72 hour BOB when multiple nuclear devices are detonated on US soil!!! Call me an alarmist, if you wish. Since 9/11, I have been firmly convinced that this nuclear scenario WILL play itself out here. Yes, there are certainly natural disasters to prepare for, but this is much worse IMHO.

Reminds me of something I read a number of years back. It spoke of a section of border fence, (California, I think), -100, 200, or so miles long. Of course somewhere out there, in the midst of the Desert, -there came a point where the fence just ended.
What a sight to an Illeagal upon entering! Off to their Left, -Fencing (and perhaps not all that great!). Off to their Right, -NO Fence at All !!! -As right up ahead, -they see where it just comes to an end!
To which direction would you veer?, East or West, Right or Left,-if you were an Illeagal heading north?!
Good that there was at least something, -for miles to the West. But what of THAT spot?!, -as well as the miles to the East?!
Scary Thoughts and Possibilities indeed!
Now too bad places like the Berlin Wall, -weren't like that! [color:"black"] cedfire

What I read and see on tv makes me think that it's not a question of if but when and where. I think the terrorists and the nuclear devices are already here. But I don't think the so called " liberals " are to blame. I also think that GWB and the right wing should not be blamed. I don't think that there is any way to completely seal the borders.

There is- a 10 mile wild dead zone, toatlly stripped of vegitation and blasted level before being paved over, with constant armed patrols, both aircraft and foot, a sensor network that would be insane, and automated weapons systems, up to an including anti-aircraft and anti-tank systems. The last line would infantry men standing ten feet apart, told to shoot anything that enters thier 60 degree field of fire at ranges of less then 200m without them being told it would be comming.
It would work. It just needs an army of clone troopers, a computer system with AI a lot more advanced than we have today, and more money than I even want to estimate. We don't have any of the three, and the first two are really, really bad ideas. Just ask any scifi buff.

Well... none that are politically correct, anyway.
