This Sunday, I will be flying into San Jose, CA for some business in Salinas. I will be staying in Marina for the week.

Any information as to areas to steer clear of, or must visits (if time) appreciated!

Just down the road is Monterey, with a world class aquarium, among other delights. The Carmel Coast, just beyond, is legendary. What are your particular interests?

I read about the aquarium and hope to be able to go. My days will be mostly consumed with some training, so we'll see. I'm mainly concerned with anywhere *not* to go. wink

you're good. Salinas has a fairly large farm population and many folks Hispanic. They are not bad people, but generally incomes are a lot lower. So entertainment there is not exacly spectacular.

the best tip was earlier - try to hit that Monterrey Bay aquarium. and don't stick aorund Salinas for food - go over to Monterrey and Cannery Row. Well worth the time if you find a good restaurant !!

x 2. Drop the $10 or $20 to go drive the golf course/Pebble Beach (I think it's up that way; been about 10 years). Monterey museum is great, but really about the only touristy-thing I know of.

How far do you plan on venturing? San Jose is only an hour from San Fransisco, which is only an hour from Napa ... next thing you know, you'll be passing Portland. Hearst Castle might be worth a day (only about 120 miles, but take PCH, not 101, for an absolutely gorgeous drive up the coast). Might get lucky and pass all the sea lions at Sea Lion Beach, about 30 miles north of Hearst Castle.

I have some LEO friends out that way. As long as you stay on the beaten path, you should be ok. There is an abundance of Hispanic gangs out there, so be aware. Thanks for your service!
