I haven't seen nor heard of this but I am not a SAR person either. One major drawback of this appears to be that you need wifi or 3G data access for many functions. This type of coverage is not always available for many SAR teams once they get out of the urban areas.

Might it not also be used (if set up right) to keep track of the kids or others as long as they have coverage. Seems that if it can track searchers, it could track others. Might be useful for the kids when they go on field trips and such. If you have the master account set up and they are set ups as searchers.
