Subject: Foray Friday, Dec. 24, Fairfield area

Sacto Mushroomers

Yes, we know it is Christmas Eve, but we anticipate a break in the weather, and
local fungophile, Dan Tilley, says "It is as good as it gets right now. Some
unusual specimens this year in addition to the usual."

Date: Fri, Dec. 24
Time: 10 am
Place: Rockville park (near Fairfield), meeting with Dan (phone (707)
864-0346). See attached directions.

Given that we are in the midst of holiday activities, we won't schedule lunch,
but there is the Vintage Cafe at Manka's Corner. See attached directions.

If you want to make a day of it, there are several quality wine
growers/producers in the area that have tasting rooms.

To give us a rough idea of attendance, please hit REPLY and check appropriate
space below:

__ Yes, I'll be there.
__ Nope, can't make it.
__ Probably, but can't say for sure.
__ No more mushrooms. Please remove my name from the mailing list.

Hope to see you on the 24th. Send a note if you have any questions.
Barbara and Bob Sommer

Wow, wow, wowser, what a nice long morning! Sun, blue sky, walks up and down hills that were not too steep, mushroomws and other fungi everywhere.

Highlight of my day was noticing I was finding a few blewits at the drip-line of live oaks,... skipping the blue oaks to check live oaks, and finding a complete fairy-ring about 6 feet across made up of a hundred or so choice blewits!

Also found a couple boletes, one in edible condition. Bolete sauted alone; interesting substantial, vegetable taste.

Blewits sauted alone - yummy almost artichoke heart taste. Sauted blewits added to rice and lentile mix for later eating. Late lunch was barley blewit vegertable soup. Now if someone would just clean the kitchen ...!

Sounds like a fun day.

Next time you go let me know a friend and I are interested smile

We went on a small 1 hour hike around my property and surrounding forest the other day and stumbled upon TONS of mushrooms from basic looking backyard mushrooms to purple crazy looking ones smile Sure would be nice to know what they are wink
