I was looking around a bookstore the other day and came across this book:

The Dangerous Book For Boys

It touches on a wide variety of topics in which every kid (and adult) should have some knowledge and would make an ideal gift for any kid (or adult), boy or girl.

Thanks for the tip! Looks like a great book. I read the synopsis and reviews and ordered it for our grandson's upcoming 12th birthday.

You can take a view the boy's table of contents here

Although I do not have a link for a Adobe PDF version of the above "The American Boy's Handy Book" I do have a few links for similar books by the same author (Daniel Carter "Uncle Dan" Beard and his sister, Lina.) Daniel Carter Beard was one of the founders of the Boy Scouts.

These E-Books are digitally scanned copies of the original books and all are free downloads. Some of the downloads are up to 60 - 70 MB in size and are not suitable for a dialup modem...you have been warned. You will also need Adobe Acrobat Reader installed to view these books.

I have printed a few over the last while, put them in a nice binder and they seem to be well excepted considering the books were originally published a 100 hundred years ago.

Dan Beard's animal book and camp-fire stories

The American boys' book of bugs, butterflies and beetles

The Outdoor Handy Book

The American boys' book of signs, signals and symbols

The American boys' handybook of camp-lore and woodcraft

The book of camp-lore and woodcraft

What a girl can make and do

How to amuse yourself and others. The American girl's handy book

I saw the Dangerous Book For Boys in Borders and instinctively picked it up. It is great. Thanks for the links above since I am trying to amass a collection of older manuscripts of this nature. Life has changed so much (for the better or worse, it is up to you) that this information should not be lost.

If you are looking for other freely downloadable books, check out archive.org. They have thousands of digitally scanned old books that are in the public domain on almost any subject you could imagine.
