Well, maybe not the traditional "Pressure Cooker"... it does use pressure, (in this case from a big rock), and it does cook, over hot coals.

We were teaching the boys how to use different cooking methods last weekend. We were camping Friday - Sunday, tried a bunch of techniques. This one uses a grate over the fire, and a couple boards, the bottom one wrapped in aluminum foil, along with a large heavy rock.

You take chicken breasts, rub some dry seasoning all over them, and put them on the grate. Then you place the boards wrapped in aluminum foil on top of the breasts. Put a big rock on top of it all, and you have... a pressure cooker!

The chicken comes out kinda like blackened cajun food, it's really delicious. The boys weren't interested in the process, but, once they tasted it, they wanted to do another batch!

This is what it looks like all stacked up:

Here we removed the rock and boards to check it:

Not quite ready yet, but, another 10 minutes and it's yummy!

Nice pictures. Sounds like a fun time.

But now you've gone and made me hungry!

Looks tasty! All we ever made in Scouts were hobo dinners and foil wrapped trout. Come to think of it, it was pretty good too. Must be the outdoors! smile

Looks delicious...on my last camping trip I made jambalaya in a dutch oven and it was fantastic. The smoky flavor from the fire really added flavor.

They are still popular, here are 2 patrols worth of hobo dinners in foil ready to go on the fire:

We had quite an assortment in there, they had everything from the classic ground beef, taters, carrots and onions, to more exotic creations, like one of them who had some fresh quahogs covered with slices of linguica wrapped in kale.

The best of the weekend was probably the killer chili that one of the other adult leaders made in one of the troop's dutch ovens. Good thing we all had our own small backpacking tents instead of large shared tents that night!

Somehow everything tastes better when cooked on a real fire. Ever cooked burgers on a real wood-fire? Takes the whole “propane vs. charcoal” argument and beats the crap out of it. Maybe it’s a primitive psychological thing.
