Maybe you've seen my "PSK" lanyard before; its essentially a retention lanyard and tactical lanyard combined; and adjustable. It allows safe retention of a big chopper blade, or a hatchet like shown here around the wrist:

I made the originals adjustable using the same sliding paracord beads I use on my paracord ranger pacing beads. For a buddy, I recently made a bunch of lanyard for all his knives; the bottom pic is my typical adjustable PSK lanyard for reference (attachment loop is 3"). Second from the bottom was made for a Randall knife he carried through two tours in Vietnam. The loop was made nearly 6" long to accommodate a girth hitch through the lanyard hole and thick handle. The top 6 lanyards were made for "PSK" style use, but they were sized specifically for his hand and knives from the attachment loop, to the braid (which ends up along back of hand), to the the thumb loop. Just thought I'd share.
