I remember reading someone posting a question about starting fatwood with a ferro rod.

Yesterday, I started my fire with a little bit of fatwood and a ferro rod. While scraping the fatwood with the back of a blade to make a pile of "dust" works, I do not like it in the wind and do not prefer that method at all. Instead, I make a little feather stick with the fatwood. It is actually more of a feather flower or feather broccoli than a feather stick. Anyway, it took a spark readily and got my fire started up quickly. Since I was in a little bit of a rush yesterday, I didn't take any pictures, so I thought I would take some today.

Sorry I didn't take a picture of the feathering or the sparking. I didn't thank I could do that and take a picture at the same time safely.
