I've been looking at the Spot since fall of last year. Reading up on it, reviews from others, etc. etc.
Some people say it's great, others say it's junk......... so confusing.

I hike a lot. I always carry my cell phone, but many locations I hike have no cell service. All I'm wanting is a way to send a message to the wife that all is well when I'm out on an all day hike.
Send a message once I get out of the car so there's a starting point, when I stop to cook lunch or dinner, and then maybe before leaving to come back home.
Anyway I figure for $50 what do I have to lose. (I would not buy the tracking which is $50.00. I would have to buy the service anyway at $100.) That's how I figure it's costing $50.00

I called and talked to someone for around a half an hour this morning. I decided it was a good deal and just ordered one a few minutes ago.
Hopefully I'll have better luck then some of the reviews I've read on this device.

Down in the lower 48 I can see value in this, but up here I'll stick with my PLB.
