Just saw an article on this in the Denver Post newspaper (available online: http://www.denverpost.com/search/ci_4467390 )

Water filtration for about a $3.00 manufacturing cost. The Post article says it is not effective against Giardia though <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Still, it might turn out to be a good device to have for emergencies.

Some of those water-purification straws (called filtrex-pen) that are made by
Careplus have been recalled because of some problems with the pens. They aren't 100% effective

From the Lifestraw website:
Quote:
Textile pre-filters are used in the LifeStraw® to remove particles up to 15 microns.

Does this mean it can remove particles as small as 15 microns?
I am confused.

Probably. But 15 microns ain't that impressive. It is still better than nothing, though.

I've posted this question before without response. I think this thread's readers might just provide an answer. The mini filter I'm packing is the Survival Straw, which purports to be an EPA approved water purifier. I purchased it from Brigade Quartermasters. Its been in their catalog for years. Does anyone have any experience with this product?

I don't think the Survival Straw is a LifeStraw.
