looking for a pair of Binoculars that will last a lifetime. No more cheap spending. However I prefer small so Im not lugging a brick around. They will be used on hiking trips as navigational aid so weight does matter.

Currently concidering the M24 (US military bino's - $200). I like them because of their small size and as the military uses them I can expect thoughness. I assume they dont have laser protection as it is not mentioned. Not needed for me so I dont want to pay for it.

Or the Swiss army binos (cant find a proper name - $120): around half the cost of the M24. As they are Swiss I expect they will be as good as their watches. But look bulkier and heavier

Any personal recommendations, experiences, tips?
