I thought I'd pass along this article I came across in my travels: Gadgets that are specifically designed to work in emergency situations

Seems like preparedness is seeping into the general mindset...

Seems like the media IS good for something after all. In our so-called advanced society, in the 21st century, a big hurricane can easily have us "living like cavemen" in short order. And we can watch it all on the evening news.

Watching New Orleans get basically destroyed, watching the infrastructure crumble, watching the people lose their veneer of civilized behavior, it doesn't take much for it all to hit home.

Then we start asking ourselves, could that happen here? Of course it could. And the really important thing to know is, we can't depend on the federal governmen to come charging in on their white stallions to save us.

That little fact was hammered home night after night in such a way that even Fed afficionadoes could not ignore.

When the chips are down, you are on your own. I believe more people realize that now.

Wish it would seep into my wife's mindset! She still thinks I'm nuts for preparing <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

maybe a few here and there will prepare, but without a new disaster for the 24 hour cable networks for a few weeks, the country will go back to sleep and forget. they always do.

Of course. As the saying goes, "Time wounds all heals." Or, how quickly we forget.

This attention just might, however, cajole someone into being better prepared than they are right now.
