I will be attending a lecture and book-signing at a university in downtown Philadelphia. I'm going with my wife. We're taking the train. I will not have access to any goodies I have stashed in my car.

I will be carrying one of my shoulder bags, mainly for first aid items and a bottle of water.

I could get away with blue jeans and a sweater, but I'm dressing up a bit. My outfit will be khakis, a turtleneck, and a blazer. Keeping in mind that the pockets in both khakis and blazers tend sag quickly, what woud you folks carry for such an occasion?

I have some gear in mind already, but I wanted some suggestions in case I've forgotten something.

As much as possible I'd go with my regular stuff. Maybe add a mass transit map and pre paid tickets. You could try a small belt pouch, the turtle neck could hide it or just put it in the shoulder bag, as a last resort you could put it in to your wife's purse. Prepare for the weather.

what about one of those travel pouches that you can wear around your waist/chest to hold spare cash a key credit cards etc.

Good idea. I have one. The problem is my wife dislikes waistpacks intensely, even when they are worn over the shoulder. Therefore I don't wear mine.

"...my wife dislikes waistpacks intensely..."

Tell her to carry a big purse so you can dump all your gear in there.

well, I guess changing wife is not an option, right ?!?
And her BIG purse is allready full ....

then an ankle pouch might be the solution.
I no longer use one for EDC, but on such an occasion, it's perfect.
(IIRC, there was a thread about those pouches, a few months ago...)

A shoulder holster rig with a pouch in place of the holster would work nice and give that "James Bond" feel.

If you don't wear a belt on your pants, a clip style strap would keep the "shoulder holster pouch" in place when bending over or dancing.

She DOES carry a big purse. And it's already stuffed with, well, her stuff. For special occasions she trims down to a smaller purse that's altogether useless for my purposes.
