Do any of you use a glove as a water container? I can easily put 16 oz. of water in a large size and tie it closed. The nitrile glove doesn't stretch like latex. The two cup capacity seems like a good volume. One potable aqua tablet or one half of a crushed/halved micropur tablet would treat it. I have yet to try the treatment part. Since the nitrile glove has some chemical resistance, I am thinking it would stand up to treatment. The glove would not be as good as the gerber containers for storage while moving, but then how many containers are you carrying in your personal minikit? Most seem to carry one or two. The glove would provide at least a dual usage also.

I suggest, I still have some problems with the space examination/surgical gloves eat up in my PSK.

BTW: Does anybody know of an "ultra-minimized" (probably compressed) version of those gloves?

Space is an issue yes, moreso with a rigid container such as the aloids tin, not so much with Doug's survival pak. Vacuum sealing the gloves might work quite well.

Well did you guys think about powder they use to keep nitrile gloves dry? That would have to be washed out. Also gloves in storage (folder and crumpled) tend to dry up and become very fragile so frequency of change and maintanance increases very much. I carry two pairs in my pouch on my belt all the time and I know that after a month or so they are more delicate and prone to tear than gloves straight out of the box.

Yeah, the gloves would have to be cleaned out. Do you find increased fragility even with nitrile gloves? They seem less easily torn than latex gloves.

I find nitrlie gloves to last longer when compressed but when latex has to be stretched to tear, nitrlie just tears when you pull to flatten them... It may also be that I carry them on my belt directly so they get moisture from sweat, moinsture from rain, humidity, cold, hot and anything inbetween that gets into the pouch.

That's why good thing for water storage is a sock and non lubricated latex or nitrile condom.

I still use condoms, I carry 4 repackaged vacum sealed in my altoids tin. I double them up for more durabiltiy. I can carry 3 quarts of water with 4 doubled condoms 1.5 quarts each and they take up very little space in the tin. No breakage yet either.

How do you get 1.5 liters in a condom without the advantage of running water?

Condoms are not the easiest to fill but work in a pinch. If you have a small amount less then 2 inches deep its dam near impossible unless you use a rigid container of some kind to scoup up the water. If you can submerge the edges you hold the opening open and pull it towards you. The filling gets easier as the condom gets more water in it.

In a lake or stream its dead easy. Blowing the rubber up like a balloon first stretches it and makes it a bit easier to fill as well.

Like anything there are trade offs for space/weight/bulk vs utility/durabilty. Condoms are an EDC tin water carrier for me only. Other bigger kits have better carrying options.

I dont know about Nitrile gloves because I currently carry latex, but I know that you can fit a pair of latex gloves into a 35mm film canister. It's a tight sqeeze, but it works. I dont know how much actual room it saves you, but it works for me;) Reason I tried it was that I was putting the gloves in by just stuffing them in at the end. Problem was that they were getting caught in the zipper of my first aid kit.
