I am looking for a strong static rope. Something strong enough to be used two or three times for rappel/belay. There are plenty of great ropes out there (mostly for climbing) but they are all very thick, bulky and heavy. I need far more light weight and compact solution. I thought I had seen a post on this board with some good suggestions but now I can not find it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

BTW: I have a little rappel/belay experience (no expert by any means) and I realize thick rope is best but im talking about a rope for use in a 2 or 3 emergency situations only then I'd replace it. I imagine that a decent pair of Kevlar gloves make thin rope rappelling a bit easier?

Certainly I'm not qualified to give out climbing advice, but I keep 150' of 3 mm New England Tech cord (3000lb) in my kit. Just in case.

The problem is finding rappel/belaying devices rated to work with such small cord. I'd be interested what you come up with.

Note this cord is VERY stiff.

Oh, I just found this:

Check out this thread. There are all sorts of links on it to various suppliers of escape or "micro" rapelling systems.
