I went to a "somewhat regional" hunting and fishing expo at a local convention center today. Lots of guided tours offered, that sort of thing. I recently took up flying lessons and have wanted to put together a "what if" bag. Until I pass the check ride, I will be restricted as to how far I get from home field (student solo x-country, etc.), but wanted to start the process of pulling things together.

I picked up 100' of REAL para cord. I checked for the tell-tale internal strands before buying. The seller understood my concern. I also found a hinged-lid plastic fly box ( 3.75 x 5.5 x 1.25) and a small "chest pack" bag that fly fishermen use (think 5.25 x 6.5 x 2, with x-suspenders to keep it centered on your chest). Lots of variants on this theme were available. This one, made by American Fly Gear (http://www.americanflygear.com/) , also has a Duraflex brand (http://www.duraflexbuckles.com/) modular clip-on attachment point on the back. I remember seeing this same attachment system on some brands of backpacks. I intend to sew a baseplate to the end of my flight bag so I can pop the small bag on for flights, or separate it from the flight bag for other use. The bag seller said they were closing out some colors, so they had really good prices on their bags that day. Sometimes you luck into things.

Anyway, just some ideas from my neck of the woods.

Alan
