For your information and enjoyment I offer you ... *drum roll* ... coming to and spreading like wildfire to a community near you ...
Chikungunya:
http://www2.canada.com/components/print.aspx?id=2011175http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chikungunya_outbreaksAnd, potentially more debilitating and deadly than MRSA ...
KPC:
http://scienceblogs.com/mikethemadbiolog...ource=nytwidgetKeep in mind, as pointed out in the 'Mike the Mad biologist' link, that there is nothing that says that diseases come one at a time. While your fighting off the swine flu your more vulnerable to MRSA, KPC, Chikungunya, or what have you.
If anyone needs me I will be showering in bleach and figuring out how I can live while triple wrapped in plastic bags.
I joke.
With so much time, ink and attention being invested on one disease agent at a time, H1N1 presently and before that West Nile and Bird flu by turns, it is easy to forget we live in global petri dish full of hostile microbes. Microbes that grow, adapt, exchange genetic material, and evolve. Microbes that can come two or three at a time.
