Not sure how many people there are here from the Chicago area, but I wanted to let them now that...

Berland's House of Tools on Route 12 near Lake Cook Road now sells orange-handled folding Silky Saws. Sweat.

They also carry Grandfors Bruks axes and Leatherman knives.

Ken K.
(I'm have no financial connection with Berland's - I just stopped in there this morning and spent a while drooling over the Small Forest Axe - maybe for Christmas)

I haven't been in the Chicago area since 'bout 1966. Too bad, I just had a BD and am still owed a present. A small forest axe would be perfect...

KenK, Good evening sir, I purchased a Silky Pocket Boy saw, their largest model that could comfortably be carried in a pocket (sorry, I don't remember the specific model number). Thus far, I couldn't be happier.
Regards the GB Small Forest, I agree, great axe. I bought it for my son when he was younger. He could use it 2 handed at the time, and I could use it either 1 or 2 handed. It's my 3 season pack axe, traded for the Scandi in winter or for long trips. Buy it, I don't think you will regret it.
Regards, Jim
Ps. Be careful, they are sharp, my Wildlife hatchet cut through its sheath.

Actually, a few months back while browsing in the very same store I accidentally cut the sheath of a GB axe. Shhhh! Made me think a kydex sheath of some kind would be better. It was amazingly sharp for a new axe. I don't think I've ever seen a new axe come even close to being sharp before that.

I recently purchased a Snow & Nealy small axe & maul set (a good deal on some nice US-made axes, though not up to GB level). My DW would take the axe to my noggin if I came home with another axe anytime soon.

Eventually I'll probably invest in the one larger than the Small Forest Axe (can't remember the name off the top of that noggin).

Ken

Sir, That would be the Scandinavian Forest Axe.
GB is the only company I know of that sends their splitting wedges with a sheath, because they are sharp enough to cut you if your not careful.
In case you don't know about it already, please visit www.oldjimbo.com. Lots of good info on woods tools there. GB finally came out with a full sized American felling axe. Don't know how good it is, but they deliberated about it long enough.
Regards, Jim
