I have all three branded compasses. All brands offer good quality compasses. Recently Silva Sweden bought Brunton USA, but did not get the North American brand of "Silva". Silva North America compasses are now actually Suunto compasses, Brunton are Silva Sweden, and Suunto are Suunto Finland. Clear? <img src="images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
In other words, your new Silva Landmark is a Suunto manufactured compass labeled Silva.
My overall perference in order is Suunto, old real Swedish Silva or European sold Silva, and Brunton. But all have functioned perfectly except from my Brunton 8099 which developed a huge bubble and needed capsule replacement. Brunton did this at no charge, quickly and efficiently. This is now my most used model, followed by a Suunto Ranger.
