Some time ago I corresponded with Doug regarding his use of Potable-Aqua Iodine tablets used to purify water in his mini-kit. These required a glass vial for safe storage.

I was just wondering if the Katadyn Micropur tablets might be a better option? They are much smaller and would consequently take up less space and they come in a plastic bottle so storage in small plastic vials (much more readily available) should not be a problem.

Just a thought/comment/query

John M

well here in europe (the netherlands to be axact ) ionide is not approved so the the only waterpurification tablets we can get here are cholerine tablets ( or drops ) like the Katadyn Micropur tablets, so we don't have packeging problems round here with corosife ionide tablets. Personally i perfer aquaclear tablets or puritabs in my PSK, since the come in foil packeting witch is easyer to pack, but they aren't aproved in the US...
They have some advantages like easier storage and a long shelf life. They do not change the taste of the water. You just have to deal with their disadvantages. They need a long contact time and you shouldnīt use aluminium bottles for storage. Because of the silver, itīs not recommended for use Micropur over a long period (for survival or camping this shouldnīt be something to worry about). I use Micropur tablets for their advantages.

Katadyn claims that they kill bacteria reliably. It takes more time though.
