Has anyone explored the possibility of a Camelbak MotherLode as a light backpacking/travel bag/BOB-lite?

The possibility of 'bugging out' is extremely slim here...I went on a camping trip on Thanksgiving-eve and it took me 3 hours to get on the 10 freeway from Orange County. The only bugging out I will do is to get anywhere between work, home, or my parents' in LA to render aid.

It's a decent size, but it's no backpacker's bag. It looks less 'tactical' and martial than a Blackhawk or Eagle Ranger pack which is a plus. I like traveling light, and since I am only 5'5" and barely 110 pounds, filling the bag up to 40 pounds is already the limit. No need taking a bigger bag if it'll just slow me down.

I do not have experience with that model but Camelback is known for their quality. I have a Classic, HAWG, Transalp and my wife has a Siren. We love and use them all.

I own a MotherLoad and a PeakBagger. Both are excellent, if slightly heavy packs.

I like the outer pockets on the MotherLoad especially. The upper pocket just holds my Trangia stove and mess kit. The lower pocket holds my shelter and hygiene tool.

That leaves the entire large compartment for my sleeping bag, clothes, food, and so on.

Great quality.

I prefer the Platypus system of hydration, but the bag holds anything you care to put in it.

Bear
