While in the local Wallmart, yesterday, I found an interesting Gerber item, at least I've never seen it before, called the EAB pocket knife. It is a small folder with a liner lock that uses heavy duty utility blades. At $10, not a bad choice for EDC or in a bag or pack. It is 5" long, just over an inch wide (66/64), 13/64 thick (21/64 at the top of the clip) and weighs 2.1 ounces. A five pack of the heavy duty blades cost $1.20 and weighs 0.8 ounces in the blister pack. Perhaps not a bad consideration since you have new/sharp blades readily available. Two "howevers" though, you need to loosen a small philips screw in order to change blades (many multi-tools have this small bit) and, in its out of the box iteration, you can't open it one handed (but you can open it with one hand and your teeth). All in all, it might be a viable choice for your pocket, the pocket clip could be a money clip as well, a small survivval kit or other.

Hey comlpro........ I really like those Gerber EAB's, I've got several spread around the house and in packs.
Check out the thread below from ETS member lasd02.

I've got one of the original Superknives and a knock-off. They both provide a good way to hold standard & contractor grade utility blades. I bought a bunch of the heavier contractor blades. The Gerber EAB looks like a nice knife that holds the same utility blade. Might be a bit thinner than the Superknife and clones. All stainless steel is nice. Made in China -- what isn't. . .

I was carrying the Gerber EAB for a while until I snapped the pocket clip off of it. I may be able to TIG weld it back together as it doesn't look like the clip was removable. (maybe i can make a better one) I'll have to bring it to work and try it some day.

Smitty, thanks for the link. It would appear that I got to the dance pretty late on this subject. Regards.

I saw the same at walmart and instead bought the little gerber next to it, same size and clip, one hand operation etc. but a standard non-replacable blade. I love it. It's straight edge is so easy to sharpen, I touch it up on the stones several times a week after use. I keep a victorinox field master in the left pocked sort of as a multi-tool, but it rarely leaves the pocket any more. this gerber satisfies most of my daily blade needs. I prefer to sharpen a blade than use replacables.
