In a short term situation any small denominations will be handy as will larger for more expsesive buy's but if the situation continues for a long time ( long enough or wide spread enough to disrupt resupply of stores) cash won't do you much good.

All I need the cash for is/are immediate needs such as getting home or buying a bottle of water on the walk home. For TEOTWAWKI situations, cash will be pretty much OBE.

I carry $100 in mixed bills in a K&M Match case. I also carry a few dollars in quarters - think pay phones.

If your are thinking pay phones, I would think calling card instead. Much easier to manage and you can put as much as you want on the card. I won't go into detail as this issue has been discussed in detail in a seprate thread recently.
