I saw the kershaw vapor at warmart for $19. It looks like a nice knife. Does anybody has any experience with this knife?. It is made out of AUS-6 and the price is pretty inexpensive.

I EDC one. I also bought it at stuffmart. Actually, I'm on my second one - I lost the first one but didn't have to cry about it because it was only $20.

I chose it mainly because it was in my price range and it has a good blade profile for "survival" use - fairly stout and not too pointy.

They are made in Worker's Paradise, so I suggest you ask the guy behind the counter to take out several of them and look them over carefully, choosing the best one. My first one had a very slight warp to the blade that I didn't notice right away and my current has a slightly marginal fit between the blade and the stop pin that may eventually cause some trouble after a lot of wear.

I use and abuse mine every day with no worries about dinging a $150 collector's item. Now if someone GAVE me a Mini-RSK...

The Vapor was my favorite cheap knife at one time. I have one I bought at WalMart.

I think there are much better options now. The Byrd Meadowlark (Spyderco) is similar in size and beats out the Vapor by quite a good margin IMHO. It's generally cheaper too! Search Google. Here's one link that popped up:

If you want to buy locally, at WalMart, I'd pick up the Spyderco Native they have there instead. It's twice the knife if not more (but at twice the price).

The Kershaw is not a bad knife. It opens smooth as butter, which is unusual for a less expensive model. Other competition for the Vapor is the Benchmade Mini-Pika. I bought one of those at an Army surplus store for $21 a while back.

If I had to pick one knife in the inexpensive category to recommend to you, it would be the Byrd Meadowlark. If you want something a bit smaller, go for the Byrd Robin. Identical to the Meadowlark, just smaller.
