I was talking to someone today that was bragging about his Emeg Kit; best knife, tools, etc. I ask if this was his stay-at-home, outdoor, office, RV, car, boat, personal, kit...what? Obviously flustered, this guy blurted out "all you really need is one top quality kit." I have 8 kits in the various locations that I frequent and I am just curious as to how many Emer Kits you guys have?

If I had more assets I'd probably have more kits. As it stands now I've got one in the car, apartment, daypack, dog pack.

My BOB.
Wife's BOB.
And son's BOB.
Somehow, wife's BOB is lighter than the other two.

Blast,

I believe a better term is "gear ho" rather than "bag ho". "Gear ho" is more inclusive and therefore more politically correct (don't have the ignore the "knife hos", "the firemaking hos" and the "non-perishable food hos." wink

My DW just refers to my ETS stuff as my "toys". Unfortunately, Santa doesn't seem to bring me any new ones at Christmas or birthday time. cry

Various Kits
  • Large Bob
  • Small Bob
  • Large FAK
  • EDC PSK
  • EDC FAK
  • Car Roadside Kit
  • Car BOB
  • Car FAK

Aside from the kits listed above, I have approximately 10-15 different PSKs of various sizes that I've put together over the last couple of years. I keep them assembled so that I can either give them to friends or family in an emergency or use them or their contents as barter items if things go south in a larger sense.

Nope. She's the friendly government agency trying to help me break the habit. frown

Let's just say some of the bags are about as non-tactical looking as possible. I thought the bullet holes I added to the "Hello Kitty" bag suggested a Jungian journey into the collective unconscious, using the holes as a metaphor for the primal self that gets repressed by the passive modern persona and the damaged pink cuteness represented both the depths of the psyche and the anti-nirvanaistic isolation of our increasingly nilhism caused by our mechanistic society which prevents people from finding satisfying work or meaningful connections with others.

She's really not into social commentary expressed through diaper bags though... She also likes to call my small bag a purse. mad

It only makes sense to have kits which are geared towards the situations you would likely encounter stored in the most appropriate location.

I'm betting this person has jumper cables in his car, and bandaids in his medicine cabinet, while not very extensive kits -- they serve the same purpose and could arguably be considered as such.

I happen to have...

PSK
EDC Bag
FAK (generally kept in EDC bag)
Trunk Kit (Car Maintenance/ Emergency stuff)
Glove Compartment Kit (Passenger Maintenance)
BOB/ Travel kit

I like making PSKs so I have about seven of them and several that aren't complete. I toss them here and there - in my gym bag, in my unused back pack, etc.

I have one Maxpedition Jumbo EDC that also has a detatchable PSK on it.

I have a BOB.

I had a car kit, but it got stolen, and so I have to make another one, though I'm reluctant to do so because it will most likely be stolen again and most of what I need is in my Jumbo and the car specific things (jumper cables, etc) are still in the car (somewhat hidden - the thieves didn't manage to find them, anyway.)

- 4 cars/SUV's = 4 car kits
- Motorhome fully stocked & supplied (stored at ranch)
- BOB for the house
- BI supplies for the house
- BI supplies for the ranch
- More EDC crap than I care to mention
- Large closet full of camping/backpacking/hiking gear

I suppose the 4 car kits and the one house earthquake BOB are the only ones in bags that I can grab and go, but I do always have at least a minimalist EDC kit on me. But the motorhome is a rolling kit, plus I keep the pantries stocked at home and at the ranch.

I have four:
- a minimal "Altoids tin" kit that I first put together for fun, but ended up putting in my briefcase along with a similar "Altoids tin" FAK for EDC;
- a medium-sized kit in a shoulder bag that has enough gear, rations and water for 2-3 days, which along with a couple of military ponchos and poncho liner are always in the trunk of my car;
- a large rucksack with enough gear, supplies and emergency rations to camp out in most conditions for 6-8 days, which currently lives in the back of my closet;
- my brain, which I have stuffed with as much survival-promoting information as I can. I EDC that, too (although my wife and kids don't necessarily agree that I have it with me EVERY day...).

I have a car kit, a small BOB, a medium BOB, and a Large BOB. I also have a drawer filled with spare supplies (used for restocking the BOBs) that I keep a backpack next to.
