Survivorman season 1 DVD now available at Wal-Mart

As I described here last year, I bought the Survivorman season 1 DVD from the Canadian distributor for $40 plus S&H. Last night I was browsing through the video department at Wal-Mart and saw this DVD for only $16. It was re-labeled with the Discovery Channel logo but is the full season 1 DVD. It's a good deal if you don't already own it.

Thanks Glock A Roo. I put off buying his DVD due to the high price and shipping. I'm headed to Wally World and see if they have it here.

Two questions, as I hardly ever go to WallyWorld:
1.) Do you mean the Survivorman DVD is in American stores too, as well as Canadian?
2.) What section would it be in - new releases, TV on DVD, or what? Just asking...

Ok just got back from Wally World and heres the deal they are the full 45min episodes (1 hour-commercials=45mins) they include a bonus dvd with the Surviving Urban Disasters special but for some reason they dont include the Behind the Scenes episode. For 16.46 plus tax this set is a really good deal.

Cyblade, thanks for the info. I didn't examine in detail the episode list since I already had the DVD. But, I think the Wal-Mart one is an even better find because frankly the "behind the scenes" segment was not particularly interesting. I think the "Urban Disasters" segment would be much more worthwhile. In fact, I may just go back to Wally World and get that one since it has the Urban segment.

They are the full length 45~ min episodes. I was going to order it from Amazon til I found out about it being cheaper at Wal-mart and including Urban Disasters. I've been unsuccessfull in catching it on tv so that works out better. It's also out earlier than Amazon was going to have it! Also if anyone is interested, and I find it hard to believe, Man vs Wild is also available from Discovery. It's 1 episode per disc and priced at $21.95 each. If it were cheaper..say around $30 or less for the whole season I'd be all over it, but alas no. Someone over at Discovery or someone involved with the show is making a lot of money off that. Or smoking some serious crack for pricing it that way!

Buy one, you'll love it!

It's pretty good (except the "lost at sea" ep). The host goes and gets himself stranded each ep with a multitool and whatever little else he has... plus 60 pounds of camera gear. He then strips down whatever method he was stranded with (if any) and survives for a week, usually attempting to get back to civilization on his own. One of the big things is that he does it with all of the camera gear -- so, you see a shot of him walking away into the distance, he has to come back, pick up the camera, and then re-walk the same way.
He certainly knows what he's doing. He got his start start making an award-winning documentary with his wife about the year that they spent living a paleolithic existence in the Canadian wilderness.
Whatever you do, avoid like the plague a show called "Man vs. Wild". It's such a con. The guy pretends to be surviving, but if you pay attention, you find that everything is staged... the raft he builds in "Desert Island" is bound with manila rope, the river that he swims in to "get away from a bear" in the Rockies episode doesn't hide the fact that he's wearing a life jacket under his clothes (or that the camera filming his cliff jump is on the wrong side of the cliff, meaning that he waited while his crew went around), etc. It's half full of survival techniques and half full of suicide techniques disguised as survival techniques.

yep, even asked an employee working in the department -- that's where I got the look like I was an idiot
to update this -- I went to a different walmart in the area over the weekend and they had it, so now I have the dvd's
the bonus urban disk is great, I learned a lot on that one and I think I need to add waterproof containers to my bug out bag instead of the zip lock bags I have my stuff in. thanks to Les, I know that wet survival gear isn't much good

I've tried to find it as well, with no luck. It's also not on their website. I'll keep looking though.
