Sometime back I asked about smoke hoods and what everyone was using, since Evacu8 went belly up. Lots of very expensive answers. I did a search but couldn't find any discussion in this forum of this product: http://www.technonllc.com/pd1# Technon's Breath of Life mask, $30, very compact package, 15 minutes of air. Any comments on this? Seems too good to be true, but maybe the technology has moved on.

Snake oil, BS product. To scrub CO you need a catalyst, Notice all the Weasel words in the Ad. Your gut instinct was correct.

They do not even state any kind of NISOH certification etc.. so its 30 dollars of junk in my book.

It doesn't make any claims about CO.
Quote:
Provides real protection from hazardous airborne particulate matter, including smoke, dust, biological toxins and chemical agents
. I wouldn't consider it equipment to wear to fight a fire, but to keep your vision intact long enough to escape without smoke, dust, biological toxins and chemical agents interfering it might be worthwhile. There are things to consider besides CO.

A false sense of security is a very dangerous thing. There are much better products out there there that would provide the proper protection for about 80 dollars.

The biggest killer in fires is the inhalation of CO, Hydrogen Cyanide,etc.. a few breaths of some of the other components generated in a fire will kill you quickly. Spending 80 dollars for the proper equipment is a great investment, especially if you work in a building that requires you to walk several hundred feet before getting out. I would also recommend a good flashlight like the Streamlight Survivor LED (alkaline model) etc.. and those two items can really make a difference.

Google for ASE30 which is supposed to be the EVAC-U8 replacement it uses a catalyst technology.
