hmm... never really understood the point is such testing, since a real knife user will know what to do and not to do with a knife. Putting them in a vice and misuse them is not one of the real life use of a knife and doesn't tell much about the actuall uses.

I foresee some serious bodily injury coming soon.

I was really impressed when he took a sledgehammer to it and the handle broke -- wow, that's realistic :rolleyes: Those tests are a waste of bandwidth and knives, that's all.

I'd have to say, this testing is a bit eccentric. Too subjective from one blade to another, no real metrics to compare.

There's some good knife testers over at Bladeforums that do fairly practical evaluations of some different brand knives.

I would say that when these clowns do get their hands on a Busse Battle Mistress, they are going to have their work "Cut" out for them, bwa-ha-ha...

These chunkheads have been banned from every major knifeforum for testing the limits of moderators also. They can't seem to even get a response from knife makers anymore either, one wonders why? If complimentary goodies was a motivation they blew it long time ago. Disclaimer; Ragnar sent me a few extra goodies for talking him up online and actually buying a bunch of stuff. I hope these guys have jobs.

I'd take the results of any test done by guys wearing novelty masks, pounding the heck out of their knives with no real life application being tested in a messy workshop with a grain of salt.

Maybe when I want to alternate between slicing oranges, splitting bricks, slicing poster board, and batoning pressure treated lumber...

I think they may have some rage issues.

One really unfortunate consequence of such pointless tests is that they present a completely warped idea of how a knife should perform. I'm all for strongly built, heavy duty knives. But knives should above all cut well and take a good edge. Everything else is pretty much secondary. I'd love to have an indestructible knife, but if that means I have to settle for a ridiculously thick spine and an unrealistically beefed up profile, no thanks. I'd much rather have a slimmer and potentially weaker knife that cuts well than a sharpened crowbar.

It's a shame that many knifemakers have gone the same route, probably because destructive tests have become so popular in the past years. One example is the Ontario Knives Spec Plus series. They took some very good, time proven designs such as the USMC Kabar and USAF survival knife and designed their own beefed up versions. Supposedly the Spec Plus knives are stronger but in reality they perform a lot worse than the originals.

Yep, though I'd say it is more shades of gray than black and white.

I have uses for knives for everything from my little swiss army classic, with it's flexible, puny <2" blade, which gets used a lot these days, and the big fusion battle mistress from Busse, which splits 4" chunks of wood fairly easily and will bust up bricks and chop through 10p nails without any real edge damage.

I guess the working dichotomy of knives is to have a variety from which to choose, and being able to use any in particular to it's fullest to get the job at hand accomplished.

OK, a bunch of bozos who like to smash stuff. I like how they just use the flashy-shiny of youtube, rather than actually writing their results up.

Simple fact- any knife will break with enough abuse. And if it's a quality knife, be it my $50 Ka-Bar MkII or something semi-custom about five or six times as expensive, at about the same locations and amount of abuse.

Color me impressed. *holding out a handful of markers* Anyone? :P
