Hello Folks
I saw a Wilson tactical Kukri today and liked it, can’t say I was looking for one but I used a machete in panama and OKI and was one of the tools that came in use the most
Also I saw some guy( mike hawk or something like that) on discovery channel was using a modern kukri and looked to be working well for him
I’m 80% sure that I will get one but wanted the thoughts of some of you smart folk on the forum before I make a mistake
Retails for $400 but the place I saw it at was $350 and then 50% off sale so $175. maybe tomuch but looks like a deal
Why get a modern Khukuri, when you can get a real one???
The real ones have been made the way they are, because it WORKS...
I have modern and real, and the real are MUCH better... Though I will admit that the modern one I have is just a Cold Steel one...
Is this the one you are looking at?
http://www.wilsontactical.com/detail.aspx?ID=21 If so, it looks like a very nice knife, but is in no way or shape a Khukuri.
A Khukuri looks like this Aitihasik:
or like this 18 inch, 26 ounce villager Ang Khola:
What you have there looks more like a Bolo:
http://www.valiantco.com/hybrid.html And the specs are almost EXACTALLY the same.
I have nothing against the bolo, and I even have something very similar: The Bark River Evolution One:
And it is a GREAT knife... BUT... While it is a great 'chopper' as knives go, it is barely in the same league as a real khukuri...
Save some money and get a real one from either
Himalayan Imports,
Tora, or
Khukuri House... There are other good suppliers out there too, but be careful, you do NOT want something from India, you want a khukuri from Nepal!
