Does anybody besides me love the smell of freshly worked micarta?

I just got an Al Mar Ultralight Falcon. It cost me about $75. A really nice piece and, as advertised, ultra light.

I also picked up a Kershaw Vapor at WallyWorld on the weekend. $20! I just couldn't pass it by. Another nice knife.

The Al Mar weighs 1.5 ounces. The Kershaw is 3.2 ounces.

I think they're both good value. But I like the Al Mar so much, I'm going to get the smaller Hawk model as well.

Does anybody know if the Hawk fits into an Altoids tin? How long is one anyway? I don't have one close to hand...

Bear
Okay. I answered my own question. Talk about resourceful.

The Altoids tin is 2-5/16 x 3-11/16 inches, with a corner radius of about 1/2 inch.

That means the Al Mar Falcon won't fit in, but (I think) the Hawk will. And it has no clip, which might be even better. I'd rig a lanyard once the knife was deployed.

Before this, I'd been eyeing the Cold Steel Tuff Lite, but I trust the quality of Al Mar more than that of Cold Steel.

Bear

I received an Al Mar Ultralight Hawk knife this morning. It seems to me to be a strong candidate for inclusion in an Altoids PSK.

It weighs in at 1 oz. It's just under 3-1/2 inches long and about 1/4 inch thick. There's no clip, but it has a lanyard hole in the butt. The knife is 6 inches long when open, and uses a front lock (like a lockback, but with the release bar near the front, not the back).

I guess it's comparable to a SAK classic in general dimensions, but has only a single knife blade. I don't mind that part, as I don't think the tweezers and toothpick of the SAK are the greatest. I'd rather have a simpler knife and add purpose-made tweezers and a toothpick.

It cost me about $60 plus shipping.
