I tried to follow the links to the kit info, and ran into this:
You have attempted to enter a "Controlled Access" Department of Defense web site. This site is intended for Department of Defense active duty, reserve and retired military members, Department of Defense civilians, and their families.
To gain access to the site, please enter your Social Security Number and Last Name. Your information will be encrypted at your browser and will not be transmitted.
I knew I joined the Air Farce for a reason...

You got a bogus link, the real link to build a kit is at OpPrepare/EPRRKit/EmergencyKits/index.htm . I don't know where that link goes if you actually log in (I could but didn't), but I did report the error to the webmaster. BTW, nothing new here, standard emergency preparedness kit.

Being a retired Coastie,
1st - you have my condolences for having to suffer through the Navy experience.
2nd - You are 100% correct, a lot of talk, but not much of a walk.
3rd - Friends don't let friends join the Navy.

"Coasties" do more with Army and Navy (and Air Force) surplus than any normal person could imagine, and like the USMC, we're bastard redheaded stepchildren of the Navy.
That's the way it is for the "World's largest Non-Nuclear Coast Guard"

And Coasties go out and do it for real every day, unlike the other services (excluding those in the sandbox of course)...
