I have been looking at all the local shops for a survival rifle. I would like to get a M6 but can't find one around here. I know from past posts that some of the people on this forum have them. can you give me some help as to where I can find one for sale at a price that I won't have to take out a loan?

Good Luck.......
Try Gunshows, and the net firearms auction sites. Ask here if anyone has one.

I live in the Northeast, and found a stainless 22 Hornet M6 in Texas.

I have a AR-7 though the M6 is a lot better weapon and more durable. But I do like how compact the AR-7 is but it's finicky with ammunitions. I was thinking about using my Delta Storm instead, but the AR-7 is more compact. The Delta Storm I wouldn't have to worry about ammunition but it's for small game and you have to have be a good shot.

Here's a start try here:

The first question is: survive what?. Depending on the situation, a "survival" weapon might be a snub nose revolver, 12 gauge shotgun, scoped rifle.....

For hunting smaller game, up to deer size, take a look at the Savage 24 line. Although the current newer (24F) series are pretty heavy and have a stupid crossbolt safety, you may be able to find an earlier one in decent condition. I suggest a model with the 20 gauge lower barrel as it more effective with shot and also fires sabots for larger game. The upper barrels came in 22 Long Rifle, 22 WMR and several centerfire cartridges. Visit: www.savage24.com for additional insite.

I have a couple of Savage 24's and find them superior to the M6.

They are getting harder to find.

I know, once you have the bug you want one, you will have to get one. Whether you keep it or not is a different story.

gunsamerica.com

Here is one for sale for $275

I have one, and I find the trigger rather unsatisfactory. Since the body is stamped metal, taking it apart for a trigger job is rather out of the question. Still, a fun little toy.

I was at a local gun show this weekend and I saw an Iraeli AR-7 conversion; really cool gun but $500 was too rich for me.

Here is a link to the Wikipeadia page that has a photo.

The M6 is OOP. There were reliabiltiy issues with some bulged chambers in .22 Hornet and extraction was always an issue. The M6 and AR7 are as much 'neato-keeno' as practicality in a potential buyer's eye. I've owned both, and yes, they are 'neato-keeno.'Available M6s are quickly becoming vastly overpriced due to the feeding frenzy. Please remember these were developed for military aviation, specificaly SAC flying over the ARCTIC. Compactness and wieght took precedent over all else for a ptarmigan and snowshoe rabbit gun easilly replaced by a roll of snarewire. personally, I got to shoot a Luftwaffe survival drilling once. With a 9.3x72 ( equal to a .375 H&H) over two 12 guage tubes it sort of made everything else pale in comparison.

What is this "conversion" of which you speak. Was the AR-7 formerly Protestant but now Jewish? laugh Does that mean that they snipped 1/2 inch off of the barrel? laugh

The AR-7 should be around $200 or so. List price is $225. What could they possibly do to it to double its price?

*drools, pointing at Chris' drilling*

The only bad thing would be the Nazi proof marks, but nothing an exorcism wouldn't fix.
