Anyone know techniques for saving fire coals for later use?<br><br>

The traditional method in situ ( preserving coals in their own firebed) is to bank the coals in a loose pile and cover with enough insulation to keep a slow burn rate and prevent extinguishment. Now if you mean transporting coals, the old method consisted of wrapping a coal in something like moist spagnum moss carried in a container;usually of clay or wood. Steatite was used for prehistoric frying pans ( it expands slowly under heat). The local Chumash used this and soapstone for camp brazziers.<br><br>
