I just bought two sets of Wellco all leather boots with panama sole-features I've been looking for for quite a while.
I'm surprised how thin the soles are- no midsole at all. Is this how combat boots are?
I thought they were supposed to be "heavy duty".
Anyway- they fit well except across the ball- will they stretch much there?

Are there any other all leather boots with NO lining and decent lug sole?- I hate mud in my lugs.
thanks
JB

PS they're on clearance for only $43.00

All leather hiking boots have been made obsolescent by the lightwieght move by the makers. If you want a real leather boot with deep lugs I would suggest White's up in the Northwest. These are the folks who make the logging, smokejumper and packer boots that are almost a uniform along with Filson. Expect to pay some serious money @ $200-$250. For this you will get a serious boot custom fitted to your feet.

Thanks Chris.
I don't need particularly deep lugs-the thing I like about the Panama sole is it's "self-cleaning". My usual vibram soles get clumps of mud stuck to them way too often.
All my other boots are all leather, but they have linings. I feel that all the linings do is make them hotter to wear and harder to dry out.
JB
