Here is my take.....if there is a ton of chit chat on the wilderness calling frequency then it is very likely that a person needing assistance could potentially be heard. <snip>
My suggestion to use CTCSS is intended to increase monitoring stations. Most folks I have questioned about monitoring say they quickly turn the rig off because of the intrusive chatter. I agree that it is better to call for help on an active frequency than an unmonitored one. It is the monitoring that is the issue.
